Adding files and sending large files

With Attach file in the compose window, the user attaches a file to the email or drags the file into the window. Attachments totalling up to 25 MB are sent inside the email; a larger file up to 250 MB is sent as a download link, and the recipient can download it without signing in.

How to add files and send large files

The user attaches a file to the email with Add file in the compose window or drags the file into the window. Who can do this: a user with write permission on the mailbox. Small files are sent as attachments to the email. Attachments totalling up to 25 MB are sent within the email; a larger file of up to 250 MB is sent as a download link and the recipient downloads the file without signing in.

Steps

  1. In the compose window, first select the Sender box 1; file attachment becomes available once a sender is selected.

  2. Click Add file and select the file, or drag and drop the file into the window 2. Added files are listed in the window with the note 'will upload when sending'; click the file to preview it, or select Remove to remove it.

  3. When you attach a file larger than 25 MB, "large file, will be sent as a link" appears next to the file. Send the email as usual.

ResultSmall files are sent as email attachments. Instead of a large file, a download link is added to the email text; the recipient downloads the file via this link.
Saved in draft If you close a mail with a large file attached without sending it, the file is saved with the draft; it is still there when you reopen the draft. If you delete the draft, the file is cleaned up automatically after a while.
When does uploading happen? Files are not uploaded as soon as they are added. They are uploaded when you press Send or close the compose window and save the draft; progress appears on the file. If a file cannot be uploaded, the mail is not sent and the reason appears next to the file. If you close the browser without closing the compose window, only the text is saved to the draft; you need to add the files again.
Note Large file links can only be used in emails sent immediately; remove the large file from scheduled emails or emails submitted for approval. For security reasons, some file types cannot be attached.
TipIf your text mentions "attachment" but you have not attached a file, SmartMail asks "Did you forget to add an attachment?" when sending; you can go back with Add file or choose Send anyway.
