How to open and edit cards by chatting with the AI assistant?

Type what you want into the assistant in the right sidebar: it opens cards, moves them, assigns them, adds dates, labels, checklists, and comments. Who can do this: Project Manager; Project Member; Viewer (questions only). Every change it makes appears immediately on your screen and your team members’ screens if they have the same board open; your chat is private to you.

Steps

  1. Click Assistant in the top bar; the chat panel opens on the right 1.

  2. Type what you want in your own words and press Enter. Example: “Open a card for the Logo revision due tomorrow, assign it to me, and add a pre-release checklist.” If you write while a board is open, the assistant knows which board you are referring to.

  3. The assistant performs the task and writes about what it did. Each change made appears on a separate line below the response; clicking a line opens the card 2.

  4. Changes appear immediately on the board, list, Gantt, and calendar; screens of team members keeping the same board open also refresh automatically 3.

If you drag and drop a Word, PDF, or Excel document into the assistant panel (or select it using the attachment icon next to the text box), the items inside are converted into draft cards; see extracting tasks from documents.

Optional questions

If your request is unclear, the assistant asks a short question and offers options to facilitate your answer: single-choice buttons, multi-select checkboxes, sliders (e.g., “how many days ago?”), or text/date fields 4. Your selection is sent to the chat as your message; you can also type your own response instead of using the options.

What can the assistant do?

  • Opening a card (list, description, start and end dates, priority, assignees, labels, checklist), creating subtasks.
  • Moving a card to another list; changing title, description, dates, priority, progress, assignees, and labels; marking completion.
  • Adding comments and checklists to a card, establishing dependencies between two cards, adding a list to a board, opening a new project.
  • Opening a relative-date card: saying “Create a task for materials procurement 3 days before construction ends” creates a card linked to the Construction card; if Construction’s date shifts, so does this one.
  • Answering questions: overdue cards, who is assigned what, the status of a card.
Note The assistant operates only with your permissions: it cannot do anything you cannot do. It does not delete cards; if necessary, it archives them (you can restore from archive). Everything it does appears in the card history under your name.
Tip Only you can see your chat history. You can delete the entire conversation using the trash button. Each assistant response deducts from your organization's monthly AI allowance; the token cost is shown below the response, and total usage for this month is visible at the top of the panel. Greetings and thank-you messages do not consume allowance.
