Why did my task disappear automatically?

If a task’s date changed without your intervention, automatic shifting pushed it forward because one of its predecessor tasks extended or a new link was created. Who can apply: All users. Shifting only moves tasks forward; when a link is removed, the task does not automatically move back—you must set its date manually.

What should I do?

  1. Check the Dependencies section in the task panel; predecessor tasks are listed here.

  2. Check the dates of the predecessor task: if its end date was moved forward, its successor will also shift.

  3. If the successor needs to start earlier, shorten the predecessor, change the link type or lag, or remove the link.

Tip Dragging only moves tasks forward; removing a dependency does not automatically move the task back—you must manually set the date.
