# Blacklisting or whitelisting senders

An administrator adds a domain or a single address to the allowlist or blocklist on the **Sender rules** screen of SmartMail Management. Emails from a sender on the allowlist are never quarantined; those on the blocklist go straight to quarantine. The rules apply to the whole organization.

- Administrator (permission to manage mailboxes)

## How do I blacklist or whitelist senders?

The administrator adds a domain or a single address to the allowlist or blocklist on the Sender rules screen of SmartMail Management. Who can do this: Administrator (permission to manage mailboxes). The rule is added to the table; who added it and when it was added are shown. Emails from a sender on the allowlist are never quarantined; those on the blocklist go directly to quarantine.

## Adding a rule

Open **Sender rules** from the left menu.

In the box at the top, enter a domain (ornek.com.tr) or an address (kisi@ornek.com.tr) 1. If you enter a domain, the rule covers all emails from that domain; if you enter an address, it covers only that address.

To trust the sender, click **Add to allowlist** 2; to send directly to quarantine, click **Add to blocklist** 3.

## Removing a rule

In the row of the rule in the table, click **Remove** 4 and select **Remove** again in the confirmation.

- 1Domain or address

- 2Never quarantined

- 3Directly to quarantine

- 4Removes the rule

Sender rules, with demo data.

**Result**The rule is added to the table; who added it and when it was added are shown. The rule applies to emails received from now on and is recorded in the audit log.

**Caution**When a rule is removed, emails quarantined because of that rule stay in place; they do not return to the inbox automatically. Release them from quarantine one by one.

**Tip**A rule can also be added from the inbox: when quarantining or releasing an email while other emails from the same domain exist, the dialog that opens lets you select "Add this domain to the allow list" or "Add this domain to the block list".
