# Setting a response time on an email

With **Set reply deadline** above the open email, the user sets a deadline and time for replying to the email. SmartMail reminds one hour before the deadline; upcoming deadlines are collected in the **Upcoming deadlines** list on the left.

## How do I set a response time on an email?

The user sets a deadline and time for replying to the email using Set reply deadline above the open email. Who can do this: A user who can see the email. "Reply deadline: …" is written above the email and the email is added to the Upcoming deadlines list on the left. SmartMail reminds one hour before the deadline; upcoming deadlines are collected in the Upcoming deadlines list on the left.

## Steps

Open the email and click the **Set response time** button at the top.

In the **Set a deadline for reply** window, select the date and time 1. The time must be in the future.

If you also want to see the period in your calendar, select **Add to calendar too** 3; it is off by default.

Click **Save** 2.

**Result** "Reply deadline: …" appears above the mail and the mail is added to the **Upcoming deadlines** list on the left. One hour before the deadline, a "Reply deadline approaching" reminder opens; use **Open mail** to go to the mail, or **Snooze** to snooze for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, or as long as you want.

**Tip**To change or remove the duration, choose **Edit response time** or **Remove response time** from the same button.
