# MTA-STS and optional records

Alongside the required mail records, the DBLinx System Health screen also shows optional records: MTA-STS, TLS-RPT, and records that let mail clients find their settings automatically. Missing optional records don't block the other steps.

- The organization's tenant administrators; the DNS owner.

## What are MTA-STS and optional records?

Alongside the required mail records, the DBLinx System Health screen also shows optional records: MTA-STS, TLS-RPT, and records that let mail clients find their settings automatically. Who can do this: the organization's tenant administrators; the DNS owner. Once the records are verified, the MTA-STS policy activates and mail to your domain is carried over an encrypted connection.

## Steps

- In the record list, **(optional)** find the records marked with this label.

- 1Optional record

- Add the records shown for MTA-STS to your DNS. Once the record is added, the policy address is set up for you, along with its security certificate.

- Add the TLS-RPT record; issues with encrypted delivery are reported.

- **"Query DNS"** check the records.

**Result** Once the records are verified, the MTA-STS policy activates and mail to your domain is carried over an encrypted connection.

**Mail-client configuration records** Used with the IMAP/SMTP add-on service for connecting with desktop and mobile mail clients.
