# Creating a department and assigning a user

DBLinx departments group your users according to the organization's structure. A department is created once, and is used to assign mailboxes in SmartMail and storage areas in SmartFiles to the department.

## How do I create a department and assign a user?

DBLinx departments group your users according to the organization's structure. Who can do this: the organization's tenant administrators. The person is listed under their new department. A department is created once, and is used to assign mailboxes in SmartMail and storage areas in SmartFiles to the department. Using "Delete department" leaves people in the deleted department Without a department. Open Users from the left menu.

## Steps

- From the left menu, **Users**from the left menu.

- In the **Departments** in the **"+ Add department"**click it.

- 2Creates a new department

- **Department name**and enter the name, then click **"Add department"**click it.

- To move a person into a department, drag the person and drop them onto the department, or use the department selector on the person's card.

- 4Drop the person onto this department

**Result** The person is listed under their new department. A department change also applies to any product access granted to the department.

**What happens to people if a department is deleted?** **"Delete department"** means that people in the deleted department **Without a department** remain as they are.

**Department could not be changed warning** Refresh the page and try again.
